As part of AdriBioPro2026, the SA SKILLS community is organising an interactive laboratory focused on the future development of the South Adriatic blue economy.

Emerging research areas, new technologies, future skills needs, and cooperation models between academia, research institutions, companies, and public actors in the South Adriatic blue economy
The transition towards a more sustainable, digital and competitive blue economy requires more than technological innovation alone. It also depends on identifying emerging research priorities, developing relevant professional competences and creating stronger links between science, education, industry and public institutions.
The Interactive Lab will bring together researchers, universities, companies, public authorities, professionals and other blue economy stakeholders to exchange perspectives on three interconnected themes:
Emerging research activities
Which research areas should receive greater attention in the South Adriatic, and where are the strongest opportunities for cross-border and interdisciplinary cooperation?
Cutting-edge technologies
Which technologies are likely to transform marine monitoring, aquaculture, fisheries, coastal management and other blue economy sectors, and how can innovation move more effectively from research into practical application?
Skills and competences
Which technical and professional skills will future blue economy specialists need, and how should universities, training providers, companies and public institutions respond to rapidly changing technological and climate-related challenges?
A particular focus will be placed on cooperation models between academia, research institutions, companies and public actors, supporting the transition from isolated initiatives towards a more integrated South Adriatic blue economy ecosystem.
Help shape the discussion
Before and during the Lab, participants and members of the wider blue economy community are invited to contribute to two key questions:
Q1. Which emerging research areas should be prioritised in the South Adriatic blue economy?
Q2. Which technical skills will be most important for future blue economy professionals?
The responses will be used to stimulate discussion during the Interactive Lab and help identify shared priorities for future research, innovation, education and cross-border cooperation.
