As part of the SATECON mariculture technological package, the University of Montenegro has put a dedicated rubber boat into operation to support work at sea. The vessel complements the recently deployed smart buoys and provides the mobility needed for installation, inspection, maintenance and practical demonstration of smart monitoring technologies in real mariculture conditions.

Following the deployment of smart buoys under SATECON Activity 3.2, another important component of the mariculture technological package is now fully operational: a dedicated rubber boat for field activities.
The boat provides the SATECON team with direct and flexible access to monitoring locations and strengthens the practical implementation of the SATECON Aqua Mariculture Smart Manager.
Why is the boat important?
🚤 Access to monitoring sites
The boat enables the project team to safely reach smart buoys and other equipment deployed in the marine environment.
🔧 Installation and servicing
Regular field access is essential for checking, cleaning, calibrating and maintaining sensors and other monitoring equipment.
📡 Supporting real-time monitoring
The vessel complements the smart buoy system, which provides continuous information on key environmental parameters such as water temperature and salinity.
🤿 A platform for future smart technologies
It will also support field activities involving underwater sensors, cameras and underwater drone inspections foreseen within the SATECON technological package.
👨🌾 From technology to practical demonstration
Reliable access to pilot locations will make it easier to demonstrate smart mariculture solutions directly to farmers and other stakeholders and show how digital technologies can support everyday farm management.
The new workboat therefore represents much more than logistical equipment. Together with the smart buoys and digital monitoring infrastructure, it creates the operational backbone for testing and demonstrating the SATECON Aqua Mariculture Smart Manager in real marine conditions.
By connecting researchers, farmers and smart technologies directly at sea, SATECON is moving another step closer to safer, more efficient and climate-resilient mariculture.
