A two-day expert workshop within the ROBONETCBC project will be held on 12–13 March 2026 at Hotel Buna in Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), gathering researchers, environmental experts, technology specialists, and institutional stakeholders to exchange knowledge on innovative monitoring approaches for marine and freshwater ecosystems.

The workshop is organised as part of Activity 2.2 – Joint Action Plan for improving existing monitoring systems in relation to innovations and technologies, supporting the development of advanced monitoring solutions and cross-border cooperation within the Interreg programme area.

The ROBONETCBC projectDeveloping innovation network for uptake of solutions in robotics and sensors to improve monitoring and prevention of pollution of freshwater and sea ecosystems – is funded under the Interreg VI-A IPA Programme Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2021-2027. The project promotes the use of robotics, sensors, and advanced monitoring technologies to improve environmental monitoring and pollution prevention in marine and freshwater ecosystems.

The event will focus on presenting the results of recent ecosystem analyses conducted across Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro, identifying key environmental challenges and opportunities for improving monitoring systems through innovative technologies.

Key topics of the workshop

Participants will discuss several important themes including:

  • Results of the comprehensive analysis of marine and freshwater ecosystems in the three participating countries

  • GIS-based environmental analysis and the influence of river network dynamics and climate change

  • Identification of key challenges and bottlenecks in environmental monitoring systems

  • Development of a Joint Action Plan for improving monitoring systems through innovation and technology

  • Presentation of the advanced monitoring concept for a hotspot location in Bosnia and Herzegovina

  • The role of robotics and sensor technologies in environmental monitoring.

The programme includes expert presentations, thematic discussions, and a roundtable debate on the opportunities for improving environmental monitoring through advanced technological solutions.

Study visit to Hutovo Blato

On the second day of the workshop, participants will take part in a study visit to the Hutovo Blato Nature Park, where project partners will present monitoring concepts for hotspot ecosystems and discuss practical applications of the ROBONETCBC monitoring approach.

The workshop aims to strengthen cooperation between research institutions, environmental authorities, innovation actors, and technology developers, contributing to the development of innovative solutions for sustainable monitoring and protection of aquatic ecosystems in the Adriatic region.
