Applications are now officially open for the International Summer School “Sustainable Development of the Yachting and Cruise Industry”, which will be organised from 29 June to 4 July 2026 in Kotor, Montenegro, within the framework of the SA SKILLS project.

The programme represents an innovative interdisciplinary lifelong learning initiative focused on strengthening capacities for the sustainable development of the Blue Economy in the South Adriatic region. The summer school is jointly organised by the:

  • Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor, University of Montenegro

  • Institute of Marine Biology, University of Montenegro

with institutional cooperation from:

  • Port of Kotor

  • Porto Montenegro Marina.

The programme is fully aligned with the objectives of the SA SKILLS project (High LEVEL and market-respondent Competences for a Blue and Digitalized Smart and Skilled South Adriatic), co-financed by the Interreg IPA South Adriatic Programme 2021–2027.

Who Can Apply?

Applications are open to:

  • university students,

  • young professionals,

  • maritime and tourism sector employees,

  • public administration representatives,

  • researchers,

  • Blue Economy stakeholders interested in sustainable maritime development.

Eligible applicants must:

  • hold active student status OR completed minimum four-year secondary education,

  • demonstrate proficiency in English language.

To support balanced regional participation, the programme guarantees minimum representation from:

  • Puglia (Italy),

  • Molise (Italy),

  • Albania,

  • Montenegro.

What Does the Programme Offer?

Participants will engage in:

  • theoretical lectures,

  • practical exercises,

  • case studies,

  • field visits,

  • simulator demonstrations,

  • laboratory activities.

The curriculum covers seven thematic areas:

  1. Sustainable Development of Nautical and Cruise Tourism

  2. Contemporary Management of Marinas and Cruise Ports

  3. Safety and Security in Marinas and Cruise Ports

  4. Planning and Development of Marina and Cruise Port Infrastructure

  5. Assessment of Main Navigational Parameters

  6. Smart and Digital Marinas and Cruise Ports

  7. Green Marinas and Cruise Ports

Practical learning activities include:

  • technical visits to the Port of Kotor and Porto Montenegro,

  • demonstration exercises using advanced Wärtsilä navigation simulators,

  • visits to marine biology laboratories at the Institute of Marine Biology.

The programme carries:

  • 3 ECTS credits

  • Certificate of Completion

  • Total workload: 90 hours

Participation Conditions

Participation is completely free of charge for selected participants, with costs covered through the SA SKILLS project.

Accommodation in apartments will be provided for selected participants.
